Granting or revoking server administrator permissions

Users can be granted server administrator permission by adding them to the server administrator role. To do this, check the Server administrator box in the Permissions dialog box accessed from the database server context menu. To remove the user from the server administrator role, uncheck the Server administrator box on the Permissions dialog box.

Only another server administrator can grant or revoke server administrator permission for another user.

Steps:
  1. Start ArcMap and open the Catalog window.
  2. Connect to the database server for which you want to change a user's server permissions.
  3. Right-click the database server and click Permissions.
  4. Choose the user from the list.
  5. Check the Server administrator check box to grant the user server administrator privileges.
  6. Uncheck the Server administrator check box to revoke the user server administrator privileges,
  7. Click Apply.

The user is now a server administrator (dbo) on the database server.
