Portal for ArcGIS 10.2.1 includes stability enhancements and improved functionality throughout the product. For a list of issues that are fixed in 10.2.1, see the 10.2.1 Issues Addressed List. For a summary of functionality changes in the software, see the following sections:

Enhancements when using the ArcGIS Web Adaptor with Portal for ArcGIS

Version 10.2.1 includes a number of improvements that clarify the way you use the Web Adaptor with Portal for ArcGIS. This section outlines the details of these enhancements and includes links to further information.

Easier Web Adaptor configuration

Portal for ArcGIS administrators can now benefit from a greatly simplified experience for configuring the Web Adaptor with a portal. Configuration is now performed by entering the URL to the portal, user name, and password of an administrator account on the configuration page. At 10.2.1, there is no longer a requirement to enter a shared key or edit the portal-config.properties file in order for you to configure the Web Adaptor with your portal.

For full instructions, see Configuring the ArcGIS Web Adaptor on IIS, Java Platform (Windows), or Java Platform (Linux).

Updated Web Adaptor configuration page

The Web Adaptor configuration page has a new look and feel, which includes additional information for its configuration, version number, and Web Adaptor platform type. To learn how to access this information, see Configuring the ArcGIS Web Adaptor on IIS, Java Platform (Windows), or Java Platform (Linux).

Scripting the Web Adaptor configuration

Command line utilities are now available that allow you to script the configuration of a Web Adaptor with your portal. For full instructions, see Configuring the ArcGIS Web Adaptor on IIS, Java Platform (Windows), or Java Platform (Linux).

Multiple versions of the ArcGIS Web Adaptor (IIS) can be installed on the same machine

Beginning at 10.2.1, you can have a 10.2.1 version of the ArcGIS Web Adaptor (IIS) installed alongside one other previous version of the Web Adaptor on the same machine. For example, you can have a 10.1 SP1 version and a 10.2.1 version of the Web Adaptor installed on the same web server.

As with previous releases, the Web Adaptor's version must always match the version of Portal for ArcGIS. For example, you cannot configure a 10.2.1 version of the Web Adaptor with Portal for ArcGIS 10.2.

To learn more, see Installing the ArcGIS Web Adaptor (IIS).

Microsoft .NET 4.0 and 4.5 are now supported on the ArcGIS Web Adaptor (IIS)

Microsoft .NET versions 4.0 and 4.5 are now supported by the ArcGIS Web Adaptor (IIS). Microsoft .NET 3.5 SP1 is still supported; however, 4.0 and 4.5 allow you to take advantage of various performance, scalability, and security improvements. For more information, see ArcGIS Web Adaptor system requirements.

The ArcGIS Web Adaptor (IIS) can now be used with Microsoft .NET trust levels of High or Medium

The ArcGIS Web Adaptor (IIS) application now supports being used with IIS websites that require the .NET trust level to run at High or Medium access levels. To learn more, see Configuring the .NET Trust level in IIS.

Portal for ArcGIS website updated

The overall design of the portal website has been updated to include usability improvements based on user feedback and usability testing. For example, the organization description field now includes a View HTML Source option to more easily create a description with HTML.

Website configuration

  • Czech and Finnish are now available as language options for viewing the website. Language determines the user interface as well as the way time, date, and numerical values appear. To see the website user interface in a language other than what the portal administrator has set for the organization, you can edit your profile. For more information, see Setting language.
  • Czech and Finnish also are available as language options for your organization. As the administrator, you can set the language in the General settings for your organization.
  • You can now edit your account name, password, and security question from the profile page. For more information, see Managing your profile.

Enforcement of named user licensing

Beginning with version 10.2.1, Portal for ArcGIS enforces its named user licensing model. You will no longer be able to add more members into your portal than what it is currently licensed for. While the licensing enforcement should not affect you in any way, it is important that Portal for ArcGIS 10.2 users carefully review the Enforcement of named user licensing topic before upgrading to 10.2.1.

Perform administrative tasks using the ArcGIS Portal Directory

Portal for ArcGIS includes a web application, called the ArcGIS Portal Directory, that you'll use to perform specific administration tasks not exposed in the portal website. For example, tasks available in the Portal Directory are:

Locally installed ArcGIS API for JavaScript updated

The locally installed version of the ArcGIS API for JavaScript has been updated from version 3.5 to 3.7. As with the previous version of Portal for ArcGIS, there is no need to host your own API and point the portal at the local version; the portal and its locally installed web application templates automatically reference the installed API. The locally installed API is typically available at https://webadaptor.domain.com/arcgis/jsapi/jsapi.
