Removing an ArcGIS Server site from your portal

If you don't want your server to be federated with Portal for ArcGIS anymore, you can remove the federated server using the portal website. Your service items and hosted services will no longer be shared and will not appear as items in your portal. However, the services remain online until you explicitly delete them using a program such as ArcGIS Server Manager.

After unfederating, you need to log in to ArcGIS Server Manager and restore the security settings you were using before you federated.

To remove an ArcGIS Server site from your portal, follow the steps below.

Steps:
  1. Log in to the portal website with an account that has administrative privileges.
  2. Click Edit Settings > Servers.
  3. In the Servers dialog box, locate the server you want to unfederate and click the Remove server button.
  4. Click Yes to confirm.
    Dive-inDive-in:

If this step is interrupted or does not complete, you can force your server to unfederate from the portal using the ArcGIS Server Administrator Directory. Log in using your primary site administrator account and navigate to security > config > update. Set the Authentication tier to GIS_SERVER and click Update.

  5. If you no longer want services published by portal users to be available to any application, log in to ArcGIS Server Manager and delete the services from the Hosted folder.
    CautionCaution:

If you do not perform this step, services that were published by portal users will continue to run on ArcGIS Server.

  6. Log in to Manager as the primary site administrator account and set the user and role stores back to the settings they were using before you federated the server. When you log in, you'll notice that the unfederation operation has reverted ArcGIS Server security to the built-in user and role store. Set it to the store that you want, and re-apply permissions on your services if necessary.

If the primary site administrator account is disabled, you'll need to reenable it before you can log in. To learn more, see Configuring ArcGIS Server security and Restricting access to GIS web services.
