Setting the active annotation target

Specify which annotation target will receive text and graphics that you draw on your data frame with the tools in the Draw toolbar by setting the active annotation target. Setting the annotation target also specifies which text and graphics will be editable.

Steps:
  1. Click Drawing on the Draw toolbar and point to Active Annotation Target.
  2. Click the name of the annotation group to which you want new annotation added.
  3. Each data frame has at least one <Default> annotation group.

The target can be an annotation group or an annotation feature class. If the annotation target is stored in a geodatabase, you need to start editing to add graphics or text to it.

TipTip:
If you have geodatabase annotation classes in your map, they will be listed in the Active Annotation Target menu; however, they will only be enabled if you are editing that data.
