Selecting features by their attributes in ArcGlobe

You can select features in ArcGlobe using a SQL-based expression against their attributes as part of your 3D editing or 3D analysis processes.

The Select by Attributes dialog box helps you define one or more criteria of the SQL expression that can consist of attributes, operators, and calculations. The resulting selection of features on the given layer meet that criteria.

If you have any fields that have been turned off for the layer or table you are working, they will not listed on the Select By Attributes dialog box. Field visibility is set on the Fields tab of the Layer Properties dialog box or from the Table Options drop-down inside the Table window .

Steps:
  1. Click Selection on the Main menu and click Select By Attributes.
  2. Click the Layer drop-down arrow and click the layer containing the features you want to select.
  3. Click the Method drop-down arrow and click a selection method.
  4. The default selection procedure is to create a new selection, but you can also add to, remove from, or select from the current selection.

  5. Double-click a field to add the field name to the expression box.
  6. Click an operator to add it to the expression. For example, the equals sign.
  7. Click Get Unique Values to see the values for the selected field. Then double-click a value to add it to the expression.
  8. Optionally, click Verify to check your selection expression.
  9. Verify will see if you are using proper syntax or if the criteria you've entered will select any features.
  10. Click Apply.
  11. The status bar at the bottom of the ArcGlobe or ArcScene window will tell you how many features are selected.
  12. Click Close. The features are selected.
NoteNote:
  • Use the Clear button on the expression box to empty the expression.
  • Use the Save and Load buttons respectively to save your current query as a file or load an existing one.
  • The Select By Attributes dialog box and Select By Location dialog box both have check boxes that let you choose to only show selectable layers. If you check this box, ArcGlobe and ArcScene remembers this setting between sessions. This setting also applies to ArcMap. In this way, you can check this box once and it will be checked whenever you use this dialog box.
