Creating an enterprise geodatabase

You can create a database, geodatabase administrator, and enterprise geodatabase in a Microsoft SQL Server or PostgreSQL database management system (DBMS) using the Create Enterprise Geodatabase geoprocessing tool or a Python script. You can also create a default tablespace, geodatabase administrator, and enterprise geodatabase in an Oracle database using this tool.

The following are the general steps to create a geodatabase using the Create Enterprise Geodatabase geoprocessing tool.

Steps:
  1. Start ArcCatalog or ArcMap.
  2. Open the Create Enterprise Geodatabase geoprocessing tool.

Either search for the tool in the Search window, or open the tool's dialog box directly from the Geodatabase Administration toolset of the Database Management toolbox.

  3. Provide the information needed for your DBMS. See the topic specific to your database type for information.
  4. Click OK to run the tool.

You now have an enterprise geodatabase and geodatabase administrator user.

Next, add nonadministrator users to the database, including a user or users who will load data to the geodatabase.
