Administering hosted services

When you publish to ArcGIS Online, you can adjust settings affecting who can view your service. You can also edit the service description, tags, and thumbnail image. Finally, you can delete your service if needed.

All these actions are available from the My Content page in ArcGIS.com. Log in to ArcGIS.com, click My Content, and examine the resulting table of all the maps, apps, and services you've added to ArcGIS Online.

Choosing who can use your service

By default, all services you publish to ArcGIS Online are initially visible to you only. To adjust who can use your service, click the service in the My Content page and click Share. You can choose to share with everyone on the Internet, with all users within your organization, or with certain groups that you've created in ArcGIS Online.

If you choose not to share with everyone, then users who want to view your service must be logged in to ArcGIS.com. The security token obtained when performing this login is used to access the service within Explorer Online and the ArcGIS.com map viewer.

Editing service details

You can edit the title, summary, description, thumbnail image, tags, extent, and credits associated with your service in ArcGIS Online. In the My Content page, click your service, then click Edit. These settings can help users browse, find, and understand your service before using it. When you are finished making changes, remember to click Save.

Viewing service usage statistics

You can see a usage report of the credits, bandwidth, and requests incurred for each service that you own. Administrators can view this report for any service. See Viewing usage reports for hosted services to learn how to display a report.

Deleting a service

To delete a service, click the service name in the My Content page, then click Delete. This deletes your service and all its corresponding tiles (although the tiles may take a few hours to go away). If you want to delete the service definition, you must explicitly do so as a separate action.
