Creating versioned views from ArcGIS for Desktop

This topic applies to ArcGIS for Desktop Standard and ArcGIS for Desktop Advanced only.

Versioned views are automatically created for datasets that are registered as versioned using ArcGIS for Desktop 10.1 or higher. The view name is the name of the table or feature class with _vw appended to the end.

If you were using ArcGIS prior to 10.1, you might have tables or feature classes that are already registered as versioned. If you want to create versioned views for these, you can do so from ArcGIS for Desktop.

Steps:
  1. In the Catalog tree in ArcMap or ArcCatalog, connect to the geodatabase that contains the versioned data for which you want to create a versioned view.

Be sure to connect as the owner of the data; only the owner can create a versioned view.

  2. Right-click the versioned table, feature class, or feature dataset; point to Manage; then click Create Versioned View.

A view is created in the database. If you created a versioned view on a feature dataset, one view is created for each feature class in the feature dataset.

    NoteNote:

Versioned views are not supported in DB2 on z/OS databases.
