About publishing schematics data

Registering schematics data with the server

Before publishing any ArcGIS Server service, you must register your data folders or enterprise geodatabases with the server. A schematics service only works if it can reference the source data of the schematic layers. This means that no copy of the schematics service's data can be automatically placed on the server at the time you publish the service—the publisher's machine and the server must be able to access the same schematics source enterprise geodatabase or the same schematics source data folder, and this enterprise geodatabase or data folder must be registered with the server.

Registering schematics data with the server using ArcGIS for Desktop

To register your schematic source data using ArcGIS for Desktop, follow the steps detailed in Registering your data with ArcGIS Server using ArcGIS for Desktop and, depending on the type of the data source you want to register, do one of the following:

  • If registering an enterprise geodatabase, keep the Same as publisher database connection check box checked.
  • If registering a folder, keep the Same as publisher folder path check box checked.

Registering schematics data with the server using Manager

To register your schematic source data using ArcGIS Server Manager, follow the steps detailed in Registering your data with ArcGIS Server using Manager and select Shared whatever you are registering an enterprise geodatabase or a folder. Then, specify the connection file to the shared database or the path to the shared folder.

Schematic layers' data source and allowed operations

When publishing a map with the Schematics capability and allowing the Query operation only—default, the resulting schematics service can be used for querying, viewing diagrams, and applying schematic layout algorithms without saving the layout results. This operation is supported for any schematic layer in the map you publish whatever the type of the schematic layers' data source—personal or enterprise geodabases.

However, if you want to allow the Editing operation so your schematics service can be used for saving schematic diagram layouts, generating new diagrams, or updating diagrams, the schematic layers in the published map must reference data stored in an enterprise geodatabase. Schematic layers which reference data stored in a personal geodabase are not supported for editing operations.
