Extending a line along a trajectory (Aeronautical Solution)

Line features can be extended along the trajectory of an existing line. The Dynamic Extend tool allows you to extend a selected line by clicking on or near the endpoint you want to move and adding one or more vertices in the specified direction. The line can be extended from either end without flipping the sketch.

Steps:
  1. Start ArcMap.
  2. If necessary, load data in the map.
  3. On the main menu, click Customize > Toolbars > Production Editing.
  4. Add the Dynamic Extend tool in ArcMap by doing the following:
    1. On the main menu, click Customize > Customize Mode.

      The Customize dialog box appears.

    2. Click the Commands tab.
    3. In the Categories list, choose Production Editing.
    4. From the Commands list, drag the Dynamic Extend tool Dynamic Extend to a toolbar.
    5. Click Close.
  5. Click the Production Start Editing button Production Start Editing on the Production Editing toolbar.
    NoteNote:

The Manage Features and Create Attributes, Update Attributes, or Metadata Attributes windows automatically appear when you start an edit session using the Production Start Editing tool.

    TipTip:

If the Create Attributes, Update Attributes, or Metadata Attributes window does not appear when you start an edit session, click the Show/Hide Attributes button Show/Hide Attributes on the Manage Features window.

  6. Select the line feature you want to modify.
  7. Click the Dynamic Extend button Dynamic Extend.
  8. Click the end of the line you want to extend.
  9. Hold down the SHIFT key and click along the given trajectory to extend (lengthen) the line.

The line is extended based on the trajectory.
