How to use the trace-link tool to establish join links

This topic applies to ArcGIS for Desktop Standard and ArcGIS for Desktop Advanced only.

To use the trace link tool to establish join links, follow these steps:

  1. With the joining parcel present, click the Trace fabric to create join links tool Trace fabric to create join links on the Join Parcel dialog box and either type a trace buffer in the Trace buffer text box or leave the default trace buffer of 10 feet. Click an existing boundary to start tracing a trace line.
  2. Click an existing boundary to start tracing a trace line. Click the boundary to finish tracing the line.
  3. The transparent trace buffer is displayed on the map.
  4. Make sure the joining parcels lines are within the trace buffer and click Create Links.
  5. Click Auto Join to detect any remaining join links or line point join links.
  6. Click OK to join the parcel.
  7. TipTip:

    Make sure to set an appropriate join tolerance for detecting line points under Auto-join settings on the Tolerances tab on the Parcel Editor Options dialog box.
