Importing control points

This topic applies to ArcGIS for Desktop Standard and ArcGIS for Desktop Advanced only.

Control data can be imported from a feature class, table, or comma-delimited (.csv) text file.

When importing new control points into a parcel fabric with existing control points, you can choose to merge the new and existing control points that lie within a specified tolerance. An example of when you would do this is when an existing control point in the parcel fabric has been updated with new coordinates. You would import the new control point, merge it with the existing control point, then overwrite the coordinates of the existing control point.

When merging new and existing control points, you have the following options:

Control point names

Control point coordinates

Control point attributes

Steps:
  1. In the Catalog window, right-click your parcel fabric, point to Import > Control Points.
  2. The Import Control Points wizard appears.

  3. Click the browse button and navigate to your control source data in the Select a dataset dialog box.
  4. Check the Use shape field for coordinates box you are migrating a feature class of control points with no x,y,z attributes.
  5. Click Next.
  6. Enter a tolerance for matching control points to fabric points.
  7. Fabric points lying within the specified tolerance of the control point will be associated with the control point.

  8. Click Next to view a summary of your import settings.
  9. Check the Log import results to a file check box if you want to save a log of your data migration results. Click the browse button to navigate to the location where you want to save your log file.
  10. Click Finish to begin the data migration process.
