Importing traverse files

This topic applies to ArcGIS for Desktop Standard and ArcGIS for Desktop Advanced only.

You can import traverse text files saved from the Traverse window Traverse on the COGO toolbar into the parcel fabric. The Traverse window lets you create edit sketch geometry from a variety of traverse measurements in the standard editing environment. COGO traverse files are imported into the traverse lines grid on the Parcel Details window.

COGO traverse files can be loaded one at a time into the parcel fabric, where each parcel traverse exists separately, or a set of traverse files can also be imported such that a parcel group is created.

Steps:
To import a COGO traverse into the parcel fabric, follow these steps:
  1. In an edit session in ArcMap, open the Plan Directory dialog box (Parcel Editor > Plan Directory).
  2. Right-click the plan into which you want to import your COGO traverse and click Import Traverse.
  3. TipTip:

You can also right-click a plan node in the Parcel Explorer window and click Import Traverse.

  4. In the Load Traverse dialog box, navigate to the location of your COGO traverse files and select the traverse files you want to import.
  5. To import more than one traverse file, hold down the SHIFT key and select the traverse files you want to import. When more than one traverse file is selected, parcels are imported as a parcel group.
  6. Click Add on the Load Traverse dialog box to load your selected COGO traverse files.
  7. The traverse files are loaded as unjoined parcels and are listed under Unjoined in the Parcel Explorer window.

    NoteNote:

If the Parcel Explorer window is not visible, click the Parcel Explorer window command Parcel Explorer Window on the Parcel Editor toolbar.
