Changing defaults of a 2D text graphic in ArcGlobe

You can configure the text properties for new 2D text you want to add to your globe document. Additionally, at any time you can reset the default viewing options and lighting properties. Simply, click Set System Defaults on the Effects Tab inside the Default Text Element Properties dialog box.

To set the default properties for 2D text graphics in ArcGlobe, do the following.

Steps:
  1. Click Graphics on the Globe 3D Graphics toolbar and click Default Element Properties.
  2. Click the Text button to open the dialog box for default properties of 2D text elements.
  3. On the Text tab, click the various fields to edit text and modify font settings.
  4. Optionally, click Change Symbol to access additional text symbol properties and styles.
  5. Click the Effects tab to set additional Viewing Options and Lighting Properties such as:
    • Display as draped image - check this to rasterize the graphic element and fully drape the 2D text over the surface.
    • Display as vector - to fix the text graphic to the underlying globe surface, check Pin to surface.
    • Illuminate - check this to shade the graphic elements using lighting settings from the Globe Properties dialog box. Illumination gives a greater sense of depth and realism.
  6. Click OK on all dialog boxes.
TipTip:
  • The 2D text graphic element is billboarded by default. This means that the text is always facing the viewer.
  • Use the What's This What's This? button inside the Default Text Element Properties dialog box and click any parameter you want to learn more about.
  • Text formatting tags are supported only when the 2D text is rasterized and draped as an image over the globe surface.
