Defining data as a draped layer in ArcScene

You can redefine the role of a layer in ArcScene by editing its layer properties. To display your data as draped on a surface in ArcScene, do the following:

Steps:
  1. Right-click the layer you want to reclassify in the table of contents and click Properties.
  2. Click the Base Heights tab.
  3. If the elevation source data is already part of the ArcScene document and listed in the table of contents, choose the layer from the Floating on a custom surface drop-down list.
  4. Alternatively, click the browse button Browse and navigate to the source single band raster or triangulated irregular network (TIN).
  5. Click OK.

The layer is draped on the surface.

TipTip:
  • You can change the default resolution of a raster surface to match your accuracy needs by clicking the Raster Resolution button and updating the values. The higher the resolution, the more memory that layer will consume.
  • To use a terrain dataset as an elevation source in ArcScene, you will need to export your area of interest to either a raster or a TIN using the 3D Analyst Conversion geoprocessing toolset.
