Creating a new parcel fabric

This topic applies to ArcGIS for Desktop Standard and ArcGIS for Desktop Advanced only.

A parcel fabric is created through a wizard in the Catalog window and appears as a new node under a feature dataset. You can choose to enable your parcel fabric with an information model. A parcel fabric information model is a parcel fabric dataset that has been enhanced with the data model and parcel editing workflows of a chosen organization. Currently, the parcel fabric can be enabled with the Local Government Information Model (a model for local governments in the USA).

When creating a parcel fabric on an enterprise geodatabase, you have the option to set a configuration keyword, which specifies storage and location parameters for optimal space and disk location efficiency.

The parcel fabric inherits the coordinate system of the feature dataset in which it is created.

Once a parcel fabric has been created, you can double-click or expand the fabric dataset to display the fabric feature classes and tables.

Parcel fabric feature classes and tables

You can right-click on each feature class or table to view its properties and add new attributes, subtypes, domains, and indexes.

TipTip:

The Adjustments and Accuracy tables can be displayed using the Make Parcel Fabric Table View geoprocessing tool under Parcel Fabric Tools > Layers and Table Views.

Individual fabric feature classes can be added as individual layers to ArcMap and can also participate in Geoprocessing tools.

You can also associate standard feature classes to a parcel fabric dataset once it is created. Using the feature adjustment tool, associated feature classes can be realigned to parcel fabric boundaries that have been adjusted in the fabric least-squares adjustment.

When a parcel fabric is created, it is empty. A parcel fabric can be built by entering new parcel data, appending XML files containing groups of existing parcels (digital submissions), or migrating existing coordinate geometry (COGO) coverages or parcel-based feature classes into the parcel fabric.
