An overview of the Mobile toolbox

The Mobile toolbox provides a set of tools used to create mobile cache with a map schema and GIS data for Mobile Project Center (MPC) to build a mobile project and to synchronize data changes between an updated mobile cache and the geodatabase.

When working with GIS data in the field, it is important that you provision your mobile devices with as much information as you can while in the office. Using the mobile geoprocessing tools, you can create mobile caches for Mobile Project Center (MPC) to build a mobile project. Then you can copy the project directly to your mobile device or share via ArcGIS for Server, ArcGIS Online or Portal for ArcGIS. When returning from the field, you can copy the updated mobile cache to your desktop computer and use the geoprocessing tools to synchronize changes directly back into the geodatabase.

NoteNote:

The following tools are only available for use with the Microsoft Windows operating system.

Description

Create Mobile Cache tool

This tool creates a mobile cache with a map schema and GIS data for Mobile Project Center (MPC), a component of the ArcGIS for Windows Mobile product, to build a mobile project. Using the map document's current full extent, this tool generates a mobile cache from an input map document. The output is a folder using the map document name as its folder name, a mobile cache containing a map schema, the GIS data, and associated attachments folder (if available).

Synchronize Mobile Cache tool

This tool synchronizes an updated mobile cache and its associated attachments (if available) with its data source using its originating map document.
