Representing geostatistical layers as hillshades

When you represent geostatistical layers as hillshades, you are creating a shaded relief representation of the geostatistical layer.

Steps:
  1. Right-click the desired geostatistical layer in the ArcMap table of contents and click Properties.
  2. Click the Symbology tab.
  3. Click Hillshade in the Show list and check the accompanying check box.

The item that is highlighted in the Show list determines the options shown on the right side of the Symbology tab. For example, although Filled Contours may be checked in the Show list, hillshading options are shown because Hillshade is highlighted in the Show list.

  4. Set the desired parameters.
  5. Click OK.
TipTip:
Increasing the Z factor will increase the proportion of the z-units relative to the x-and y-units. If the z-values are very small, and the x- and y-values are large, you'll have to specify a large Z factor to see any changes.
TipTip:
Having the contours and the hillshade representations both checked can give particularly stunning effects.
