CAD feature class properties

The CAD Feature Class Properties dialog box is where you can view summary information about the feature class and manage its spatial index.

To open the dialog box, right-click the CAD feature class in the Catalog window and click Properties on the context menu.

General tab

The General tab reports basic information about the CAD feature class, such as its name, feature type, and whether the data contains m- and z-values.

XY Coordinate System tab

The XY Coordinate System tab displays read-only information about the spatial reference that is defined at the dataset level.

Fields tab

The Fields tab lists the fields in the feature class virtual table. This schema is read-only and generated on the fly by the direct-read translation process.

Spatial Index tab

The Spatial Index tab is where you manage the spatial index. A spatial index can help improve the display and query performance of the feature class. Performance gains can vary depending on the size and composition of the data.

Create a spatial index

If a spatial index does not exist, the Spatial Index section displays a check box labeled Create Spatial Index. Check this box and click Apply to create a spatial index.

Delete the spatial index

If a spatial index exists, the Spatial Index section displays a check box labeled Delete Spatial Index. Check this box and click Apply to delete the spatial index.

NoteNote:

Spatial indexes for CAD datasets are stored in auxiliary (.abn and .abx) system files that have the same name as the drawing file (prefix). They travel with the CAD drawing in the Catalog window as hidden files. If you copy, delete, or rename the CAD dataset, the spatial index files are also modified by these operations and maintained as a property of the dataset.
