System requirements
The following items are the Linux setup requirements for ArcGIS Spatial Data Server for the Java Platform.

Supported operating systems
- Red Hat Enterprise Linux Server 6 (64-bit) and Red Hat Enterprise Linux Server 6 Update 1 (64-bit)
- Red Hat Enterprise Linux Server 5 Update 7 (64-bit)
- SUSE Linux Enterprise Server 11 Service Pack 1 (64-bit)
ArcGIS Spatial Data Server for the Java Platform do not support 32-bit Linux operating systems.
Supported Java application servers
You must have a supported Java Application Server installed before using ArcGIS Spatial Data Server for the Java Platform. See Supported Java application servers for more information.
X Window System
The X Window System is required when installing ArcGIS Spatial Data Server for the Java Platform using graphical user interface option of the installer. It is usually installed by default with the operating system.

Temp space
By default, resources are extracted to the system /tmp directory. If the required space is not available in the /tmp directory, the setup program attempts to extract installer resources to the user's HOME directory. If the required space is not available in the user's HOME directory, the setup program reports an error indicating this problem.
You can specify an alternate /tmp location by setting the following environment variable:
For C shell:
$ setenv IATEMPDIR /your/temp/space/directory
For Bourne shell:
$ IATEMPDIR = /your/temp/space/directory
$ export IATEMPDIR
