How to install ArcGIS Spatial Data Server for IIS

  1. From the media front end, click the ArcGIS Spatial Data Server for IIS link to launch the ArcGIS Spatial Data Server for IIS setup program.
  2. During the installation, read the license agreement and accept it, or exit if you don't agree with the terms.
  3. Select an installation directory for the Spatial Data Server web application. The Spatial Data Server web application will have read/write permissions to certain folders under the selected installation directory. SDS installdir dialog box
    NoteNote:

    Optional: Enable Cross-domain Policy Files

By default, Adobe Flash and Microsoft Silverlight web applications are not allowed to access web services that reside outside the domain where the application is hosted. Cross-domain policy files enable access to web services outside the application’s domain. When the Cross-domain Policy Files feature is enabled, two cross-domain policy files are installed in the IIS web server root folder: crossdomain.xml for Adobe Flash applications and clientaccesspolicy.xml for Microsoft Silverlight applications. These files enable Adobe Flash and Microsoft Silverlight applications to access feature services hosted by the Spatial Data Server for IIS.

Limiting access to web server resources

You can modify the contents of a cross-domain policy file to limit access of web applications to specific web server resources (for example, folders, files), types of requests, protocols, and so forth.

    • To learn how to create or modify a crossdomain.xml file, see the Adobe cross-domain policy file specification.

    • To learn how to create or modify a clientaccesspolicy.xml file, see Making a service available across domain boundaries and Network security access restrictions in Microsoft Silverlight.

  4. Select a website for the ArcGIS Spatial Data Service. Available websites are listed as <website name (port)>. SDS select website dialog box

If you don't see the Select website dialog box, this means you only have one website. If only one website is found on your machine, the ArcGIS Spatial Data Service is automatically placed on that website without displaying the Select website dialog box.

  5. Enter the name of the ArcGIS Spatial Data Service. The default value is arcgis. Specify virtual directoy name
    NoteNote:

If a virtual directory with the same name as the ArcGIS Spatial Data Service already exists in the selected website, a message is displayed indicating that. Click OK to close the message and enter a different name for the ArcGIS Spatial Data Service.

  6. To complete the installation, follow the directions on the screen.
  7. After the installation completes, Software Authorization Wizard is launched. See Authorizing ArcGIS Spatial Data Server for more information.
