Installing ArcGIS 10.1 SP1 for Server silently

ArcGIS 10.1 Service Pack 1 (SP1) for Server is provided as a setup program. With the SP1 setup, you can:

• Upgrade an existing machine running ArcGIS 10.1 for Server to SP1 silently. To do this, follow the instructions in the sections below.

OR:

• Install ArcGIS 10.1 SP1 for Server silently on its own. There is no need to install ArcGIS 10.1 for Server and then apply SP1. To do this, run the SP1 Setup.exe and follow the steps in Installing ArcGIS for Server silently.

Upgrading to SP1 silently

The SP1 setup program is executed through a utility named Setup.exe. To upgrade using Setup.exe, follow the guidelines below.

If organizational restraints prevent you from upgrading using Setup.exe, you can apply or install SP1 using setup.msi. For full instructions, see Installing ArcGIS 10.1 SP1 for Server silently using setup.msi.

Upgrading to SP1 silently using setup.exe

Caution:

The SP1 upgrade will restart all of your ArcGIS Server services. You should consider your ArcGIS Server site offline during the upgrade.

When upgrading to SP1 silently, you must specify the ArcGIS Server account used by your ArcGIS 10.1 for Server site. Typically, this is the account that you defined when installing 10.1 final. If the account has changed since you installed 10.1 final, for example, by using the Configure ArcGIS Server Account Utility, you'll need to enter the user name and password that you designated when modifying the account.

If you do not specify the ArcGIS Server account, or it does not match the ArcGIS Server account used by your current site, the installation process will display a message indicating the credentials could not be validated. The installation will exit as a result.

You can determine the ArcGIS Server account by accessing the Configure ArcGIS Server Account Utility from the Start menu on the machine hosting ArcGIS Server. The ArcGIS Server account is listed in the dialog box. If you are unsure of the password for the ArcGIS Server account, contact your system administrator or reset your password using the Configure ArcGIS Server Account Utility. In the example below, the ArcGIS Server account used by the 10.1 final site is myaccount:
