Installing ArcGIS for Windows Mobile

The ArcGIS for Windows Mobile installation requires the user to be a system administrator or have elevated privileges in a deployment environment.

How to prepare to install ArcGIS for Windows Mobile

  1. Verify that your computer meets the system requirements. For system requirement information, see ArcGIS for Windows Mobile System Requirements.
  2. Log in as a user with administrative privileges.
  3. Close all applications on your computer.
  4. Run setup.exe to launch the setup program.
    CautionCaution:

    The ArcGIS for Windows Mobile 10.1.1 setup will terminate and display a dialog box if these products exist on your machine. If so, you must uninstall them then run the ArcGIS for Windows Mobile setup again to proceed with your installation.

How to install ArcGIS for Windows Mobile

  1. During the installation, you will be asked to read the license agreement and accept it, or exit if you don't agree with the terms.
  2. On the Select Features dialog box, select the features you would like to install or accept the defaults. To install a feature, click the drop-down arrow to the left of the feature. From the list, selected features will be installed on your local hard drive.
    • Mobile Project Center—a feature that installs a desktop application used to create and manage mobile projects for use with the Windows and Windows Mobile field applications.
    • Windows Mobile Application—a feature that installs a workflow-driven field application designed for Windows Mobile handheld devices used to complete mobile projects.
      TipTip:

      With the Windows Mobile device attached to the target system and this feature selected, the setup will automatically deploy the application to your device at the end of the installation.

    • Windows Application—a feature that installs a workflow-driven field application designed for field-ready laptops and tablets used to complete mobile projects.
    • Geoprocessing Tools—a feature that installs a mobile toolbox and set of geoprocessing tools used for creating mobile cache and synchronizing changes between the field and office.
      NoteNote:

      The Geoprocessing Tools feature requires one of the following listed products to be installed. If you install any of these products after ArcGIS for Windows Mobile has been installed, you will need to modify your ArcGIS for Windows Mobile installation. You can modify your installation by relaunching the ArcGIS for Windows Mobile setup.exe or by launching the setup again using Control Panel > Add/Remove Programs. Select the Modify option to add the Geoprocessing Tools feature.

      • ArcGIS 10.1 for Desktop
      • ArcGIS Desktop 10
      • ArcGIS 10.1 Engine
      • ArcGIS Engine Runtime 10

    • Geoprocessing Help—is a subfeature of the Geoprocessing Tools feature that makes Mobile help information available in the ArcGIS for Desktop help system.
      NoteNote:

      The Geoprocessing Help subfeature requires ArcGIS 10.1 for Desktop to be installed.

  3. For the remainder of the installation, follow the instructions on the screen.
