Datasets settings

Business Analyst Server works with datasets that consist of layers and tables containing demographic data. For example, Business Analyst Server uses the USA_ESRI dataset which contains demographic data for the US. This dataset comes with Business Analyst Server and is available immediately after installation.

To configure the Business Analyst Server datasets, follow these steps:

  1. Start a session in ArcCatalog and follow the steps in Access properties of a map service using ArcCatalog.
  2. In the Service Editor dialog box, click Business Analyst.

  3. Under Properties, select the Datasets tab. If you are an advanced user, you can modify these parameters; otherwise, it is recommended that you keep the default settings.

  4. Verify that the desired dataset is selected. You can add or edit your own dataset.
  5. Click Browse to select a Dataset description XML file, or you can add your own. The default file is <Data>\USA ESRI.xml.
  6. You can also view or change all the data component location folder paths. You can modify an existing path by double-clicking any of the path in Data Component Location and redirecting.
  7. Click OK when your settings are complete.

To configure ArcGIS Server Manager

  1. Open ArcGIS Server Manager and login.
  2. Click to select the Business Analyst Map Service.
  3. Select Capabilities from the menu.
  4. Select the Business Analyst from the list of map service capabilites.
  5. Click the Datasets tab.

  6. Verify that the desired dataset is selected. You can add or edit your own dataset.
  7. Click Browse to select a Dataset description XML file. The default file is <Data>\USA ESRI Server.xml.
  8. You can also view or change all of the data component location folder paths. You can modify an existing path by double-clicking any data component location path and redirecting it.
