Add a new layer expression

Add a new layer expression when you want to define an expression for use by a specific field in a specific layer.

Steps:
  1. Start ArcPad in Design Mode.
  2. Click the Quick Fields tool on the main toolbar.
  3. Choose Add.
  4. Choose Layers.

  5. From the Layers drop-down list, choose the layer that needs an expression defined.
  6. From the Fields drop-down list, choose the field that needs an expression defined.
  7. Type a name for your expression.
  8. From the Filters drop-down list, choose your preferred function category. For example, choose System. From the Function drop-down list, choose a function from the category. In this example, the System category displays the User Name, Unique ID, Sequential ID, and Incremental ID functions.

    When you choose a function, its name is displayed in the expression preview.

  9. Choose a separator (for example, _, /, \, or a space) or free text to add to your expression. As you add functions, separators, and text to your expression, the expression preview is updated.
  10. To clear the expression and start again, tap Delete .
  11. When you're finished, tap OK to save your expression.
