What is synchronization?

If you have an Internet connection, you can synchronize features between ArcGIS for Server and ArcPad. To synchronize, your data or data schema must first be published as an ArcGIS feature service on a local server, cloud server, or ArcGIS Online. You can then either browse to that feature service from ArcPad or open an ArcPad project that references the feature service. Synchronizing features ensures that new, edited, and deleted features from ArcPad are replicated onto the server, and new, edited, and deleted features from the server are brought into ArcPad.

Synchronization differs from the checkout and check-in processes that are typically used with ArcPad and ArcGIS for Desktop, because synchronization can be done directly from ArcPad and doesn't require you to manually move files. Synchronization does, however, require an Internet connection. If no Internet connection is available, new, edited, and deleted features remain on the device.
