Before installing to Windows
Installing ArcPad on your Windows computer not only installs ArcPad and ArcPad Studio, but also installs all the components needed for installing the ArcPad Windows Mobile application on supported Windows Mobile devices. This includes language packs, sample data, projection and datum transformation files, the VBScript Runtime Library, and the Microsoft SQL Server Compact Edition database engine. This is why it's necessary to install ArcPad on your Windows computer before installing ArcPad on your Windows Mobile device.
If you do intend to use ArcPad on a Windows Mobile device, it is important that you install Microsoft ActiveSync or Windows Mobile Device Center on your Windows computer before you install ArcPad.

Existing installation of ArcPad
Uninstall any existing versions of ArcPad or ArcPad Application Builder from your Windows computer and Windows Mobile devices before installing a new version of ArcPad.

Installing Microsoft ActiveSync or Windows Mobile Device Center
The installation of ArcPad on your Windows computer also installs the ArcPad Deployment Manager, which is used for installing ArcPad on Windows Mobile devices. Microsoft ActiveSync or Windows Mobile Device Center needs to be installed on your Windows computer for the ArcPad Deployment Manager to work correctly. You do not need to install Microsoft ActiveSync or Windows Mobile Device Center if you have no plans to install ArcPad on Windows Mobile devices. However, you do need to first install Microsoft ActiveSync or Windows Mobile Device Center if you intend to install ArcPad on a Windows Mobile device.

Installing Microsoft XML Parser
ArcPad requires MSXML 4.0 Service Pack 2 (SP2) or later. The MSXML 4.0 SP2 release is installed with Windows XP or later, and Internet Explorer 6.0 or later. If you have one of these products, you do not need to upgrade.

If this link does not work, go to http://msdn.microsoft.com/downloads, and search for MSXML parser to find the MSXML 4.0 SP2 download. Installing Python
To use Python with ArcPad for Windows, both the Python programming language and the PyWin32 Python Extensions for Windows need to be installed on your Windows computer. The Python programming language is installed with ArcGIS for Desktop (version 2.6 is installed with ArcGIS 10.0 and version 2.7 is installed with ArcGIS 10.2). You'll need to install the PyWin32 Extensions for Windows that match the version of Python programming language you have installed.
