Why can't I add Bing Maps layers to my web application?

In previous versions of the Web ADF, you could optionally add Bing Maps layers to your web applications. In 10.1, you can no longer add Bing Maps layers in web applications; this functionality has been removed. Instead, you can use ArcGIS Online services.
