What is ArcGIS for Hydro?

ArcGIS for Hydro is ultimately envisioned as a complete system for all areas of work and inquiry that relate to the hydrologic cycle. That’s a big goal and only parts of it exist in ArcGIS today.

What is ArcGIS for Hydro?

ArcGIS for Hydro is ultimately envisioned as a complete system for all areas of work and inquiry that relate to the hydrologic cycle. That’s a big goal and only parts of it exist in ArcGIS today. ArcGIS for Hydro is here to:

  • Support what is currently possible with ArcGIS,
  • Involve the community of ArcGIS users who have interests in hydro related topics,
  • Help that community realize goals that make progress toward the larger goal.

Thus, ArcGIS for Hydro is a collection of resources, including a community of knowledgeable GIS and hydro professionals, a collection of solutions, shared tradecraft, map designs, tools, and online services for data, maps, and geoprocessing functions.

Fundamentally, Esri recognizes that hydrologic analysis happens at many scales of inquiry, ranging from global to local, and we see our first job as providing the fundamental resources for this work. We also recognize that the context for doing this work continues to evolve, from workstation and desktop computers to online work done in browsers and apps.

The ArcGIS for Hydro team at Esri has a responsibility to promote hydro information products with ArcGIS methods to facilitate natural resources management. Our job is to help anyone using ArcGIS for hydro work to quickly find the grain of ArcGIS as a technology, and help them to succeed in their work as rapidly as possible.
