Known issues in the beta release

The beta release of ArcGIS Explorer Desktop build 2012 includes a number of issues that have been identified by the Esri ArcGIS Explorer team.

  • The beta release is only available in English. If ArcGIS Explorer Desktop is run in a different language, some English strings may be present. Translated strings will be included in the final release.
  • Only the ArcGIS Explorer Desktop application is currently available. The ArcGIS Explorer Desktop SDK for the Microsoft .NET Framework and the ArcGIS Explorer Desktop Expansion Packs will be available with the final release.
  • Web maps:
    • Feature services are not supported.
    • Configured pop-up windows in web maps for map services are not honored; the HTML pop-up window defined for the service is shown instead.
  • Locator packages (.gcpk) found by searching ArcGIS Online will not open. To use the locator packages, click to see the item description, click Open, and download the .gcpk file. Add the locator through ArcGIS Explorer > Options > Manage Locators.
  • The font size of map text changes based on the number of lines in the text string.
  • Sharing a note as a layer package may return a packaging failure message, but the package is created successfully.
  • After installing ArcGIS Explorer Desktop build 2012 Beta and viewing maps, you will need to remove the local cache (%tmp%\e3 folder) if you reinstall ArcGIS Explorer Desktop build 1750. Build 1750 cannot display cache files created by build 2012.
  • The maps in the basemap gallery are pulled from ArcGIS Online. You will need access to ArcGIS Online (www.arcgis.com) to see and use them.
  • The Buffer Point analysis tool crashes the application.
  • In the build 2012 Beta release, add-ins cannot be added to application configurations.
