How do I get started with the application?
You can work with the application immediately as it connects to ArcGIS Online where you can search and browse for maps. You can view these maps and edit data on the maps (if this is enabled).
To view your own custom maps, first you will have to create your map in ArcGIS Online. You can then keep this map private to you or share this amongst your groups or make it public. In the ArcGIS for Android application you can login to see your personal maps.

What are the system requirements?
Requires Android version 2.2 (Froyo) and above. The ArcGIS app will only run on an Android emulator running the 4.0.3 system image with hardware accelaratin enabled.
The ArcGIS for Android application has been designed for Android devices equipped with ARMv6 and ARMv7 processors. However, some exceptions exist and therfore some ARMv6 devices will not be supported and will not be able to find the application in the Android Market. The current list of unsupported devices is:
- HTC Mytouch 3G
Will it work on an Android tablet running Honeycomb?
Yes, although the application has not yet been optimized for the tablet.
How do I enable identify or clicking features on my maps?
To be able to click the map and view details of features on the map you will need to have authored pop-up windows for your layers. More information can be found here.
How do I accurately select or identify a point on the map?
If you do a long press on the map (tap and hold for a second or two) you will be presented with a magnifying glass. This shows a magnified picture of the map wit a cross hair and allows you to move your finger over the feature more accurately.
Are secure map services supported?
Secure map services using token and basic/digest http security are now fully supported.
How do I open maps created in ArcMap on my Android device?
You will need to publish your maps to an ArcGIS Server service before you consume them on your Android device. Once you have your services published you have two options, you can either make them accessible to the internet and then author an ArcGIS Online map or you can add a map to your Mobile Content Server (which comes with ArcGIS Server). You can access ArcGIS Online and Mobile Content Servers from the ArcGIS for Android application.

You can also upload shapefiles to ArcGIS Online maps, this data will be visible in the ArcGIS Android application, but you will not be able to edit your data or update your data directly in your geodatabase.
How do I access ArcGIS Server services from my local server on my android device?
You can either make them accessible to the internet and then author an ArcGIS Online map or you can add a map to your Mobile Content Server (which comes with ArcGIS Server). You can access ArcGIS Online and Mobile Content Servers from the ArcGIS for Android application.

Is offline data supported?
Offline or locally cached data is not currently supported in the application.
How do I enable the editing or data collection button?
To be able to collect data with the application the map you author will need to contain an ArcGIS feature service which has been enabled for editing. The application does not support editing features that have been added from a file. See here for more information on ArcGIS Online feature editing.
Are pop-up windows supported?
Yes the rich pop-up windows which can be authored in ArcGIS Online are fully supported in the ArcGIS application, see here for more details.
Can I query features in my maps?
You can query features by clicking on the map.
What versions of arcgis server does it support?
The application supports services from ArcGIS Server 9.3.1 and above.
What is the licensing of the android application?
The Android application is available from the Android market at no cost.
Can I use a custom basemap in the Android application?
Yes, you can author a map in ArcGIS Online using those services and spatial references which are supported (see the ArcGIS Application features page for more details) and use this as your basemap. You can then add additional layers on top of this basemap.
